Lexis Unit Two

Something that I have learnt about Lewis is that; when we talk about lexis e refer to induvidual or a set of words, units of vocabulary that have a specific meaning. Into this topic I found a lot of terminology and definitions for that terminology, which I consider very important.  For example: it says that there are words that can have different kind of meaning. That we can interprete the meaning of something by denotation  it means by the description of the words, or by imagination, which is to give a definition in a figurative way. Before giving a certain definition or meaning to a word it is important to know the function that the word has into the sentence.

We also can find the relationship between words, because we can find synonymous,  antonyms, false friendsword family, homophones or homonyms and varieties of English, mthis kind of words can have familiarity with the vocabulary with the vocabulary that we know because of the way how we pronounce them, but the meaning can be totally different because the spelling can be different of the meaning in context can be also different from the one that we expected.
Also, at the moment to memorize some new vocabulary we can use some strategies than make the learning process easier,  it is for that reason that we have to be expoused to the new vocabulary, using it in different context, practice the word pronunciation.
In my case I consider this topic very important, because in a near future I think I will use the strategies that were mentioned in the book in order to help my students learn the language in a properly way,  because it is important that students can recognize the word and also be able to use it, just in these moments we can say that someone had learn a new vocabulary word.

  1. I agree with you, in order to improve and develop lexis, it is relevant that at the moment to teach new vocabulary, students need often to be exposused to use new words according to the context.
